About One Community

Vision Statement

To be a potent force in our communities by utilising the brand and resources of the organisation; by harnessing the power of our athletes as role models to tackle social issues and promote core values to students aged 12 years and under.

Education

Warriors Against Bullying

The WAB (Warriors Against Bullying) Programme is the brain child of Dean Bell (foundation captain of the Vodafone Warriors). After reading an article about youth suicide and the large role that bullying plays in this seemingly pointless waste of life, Dean began to look at ways his profile and the profile of his team could assist with tackling this important social issue.

Now that Dean has returned home with his family and has rejoined the Vodafone Warriors he is just as passionate along with the One Community Department which is led by Petrece Kesha to continue his anti-bullying work on this side of the world. Therefore with the assistance of the New Zealand Police has launched the WAB programme in Primary Schools throughout Auckland.

The WAB programme is carried out over 5 weeks and targets year 5 & 6 primary school students. These students are old enough to deal with such a sensitive issue yet still have a year of their primary schooling to go to continue with the skills the WAB programme provides them. This will enable them to be positive role models and pass on the skills learnt in the programme to the younger students.

League in Libraries

The overarching objective of the Vodafone Warriors One Community “League in Libraries” programme is to increase the number of children reading and improve the level of literacy within young primary school children, especially those who attend lower decile schools.

The consequences of not learning to read and enjoying reading are long reaching and will have a huge impact on the lives of children and their futures.

We know that reading opens doors and expands knowledge – this message needs communicating to those students and their families who do not currently have exposure to books etc.

Charity Partners

We try to support as many organisations as possible and have found that partnering with three specific causes each year works best as we are able to develop a closer relationship with those partners and provide assistance. This year our key partners are Kidz First Children’s Hospital, DebRA New Zealand and Surf Life Saving – Northern Region.
