NSW Cup Team List: Warriors investing in future

Two players from the club’s lower grades have been brought into the One New Zealand Warriors’ New South Wales Cup side for Sunday’s fourth-round encounter with the Newcastle Knights at Go Media Stadium (3.20pm kick-off).

Named on the bench are 19-year-old prop Harry Durbin and 18-year-old hooker Jacob (Jaydee) Auloa.

Durbin has been captaining the club’s Jersey Flegg Cup (under-21) side this year after being a regular for the SG Ball Cup (under-19) team last year while Auloa is co-captain of the SG Ball Cup side this season.

Their promotion into reserve grade sees them named alongside other young players who have come through the club’s pathways programme.

One is prop Tanner Stowers-Smith (20), the club’s SG Ball Cup captain last year, who became a regular in the 2023 NSW Cup squad as a 19-year-old.

Also in the NSW Cup side again this week are 19-year-old second rowers Jacob Laban and Eddie Ieremia along with prop Zyon Maiu’u (20) who played the entire NSW Cup season in 2023.

There’s also 21-year-old 2023 NRL rookie Ali Leiataua in the centres, another player who is still eligible to play in the Jersey Flegg Cup in 2024.

Sunday's match will provide another huge challenge for the the Warriors who are coming off two heavy losses to North Sydney (18-38) and Canberra (4-42) after beating Newtown 28-24 in round one.

The Knights lost to the Raiders 22-38 first up and then the Dragons 16-30 before putting together an impressive 50-24 victory over North Sydney last weekend.
