A world record is on the cards when the Vodafone Warriors throw their Onesie Party at Mount Smart Stadium on Saturday night to promote awareness of the Kidz First Children’s Hospital ‘Jammies in June’ campaign.

Members and fans have been challenged to wear onesies to the club’s NRL clash against the Brisbane Broncos (match day sponsor: flava) in a bid to claim the Guinness world record for the ‘largest gathering of people wearing one-piece pyjamas.’

The existing record of 1184 was achieved by Ringwood School in Hampshire in England on February 14 this year at a charity event supporting an ‘End Polio’ campaign.

Vodafone Warriors community manager Petrece Kesha said the ‘Jammies in June’ campaign aimed to reduce high rates of preventable illnesses by providing kids in need with pyjamas.

“Kidz First is one of our major charity partners and we’re doing all we can to help to ensure kids are kept warm in winter,” she said.

“We want members and fans to turn up in huge numbers wearing their onesies as a show of support for the campaign and hopefully we’ll set a world record while we’re at it. It’s a chance to have some fun as well.”

There will be dedicated aisles at all gates for onesie-wearing supporters.

“We need all people wearing onesies to make sure they come in through these aisles so we can accurately register them for our record attempt,” said Kesha.

She added there would be ‘Jammies in June’ donation buckets at all gates while members and fans were also encouraged to bring along pyjamas to donate. There will be a collection point for these at the club’s membership tent in the D Zone behind the North Stand.

Saturday night’s Onesie Party has been launched with support from not only Kidz First but also match day sponsor flava.

Veteran Vodafone Warrior Manu Vatuvei and team-mates Jacob Lillyman, Jerome Ropati and Glen Fisiiahi have been promoting the Onesie Party theme for the past fortnight modelling the club’s hot-selling onesie.

In his role as a Kidz First ambassador Vatuvei is one of the faces of the ‘Jammies in June’ campaign.

Recently named the NRL’s ‘Favourite Son’ Award winner, he is also working with Warm Up New Zealand: Healthy Homes to promote its free insulation initiative for needy families.
