Mount Smart Stadium pretty in pink for a day

Vodafone Warriors players will wear a kit stylishly splashed with dashes of pink, a few will don pink boots as well and members and fans are being urged to break out some pink attire to join the Women in League mood for Sunday’s NRL clash against North Queensland at Mount Smart Stadium (4.00pm kick-off NZ time).

While the NRL’s Women in League round officially fell last weekend, the Vodafone Warriors will observe it on Sunday after having their second bye of the season last week.

The NRL team will make a fashion statement with captain Simon Mannering and his fellow team-mates decked out in a striking one-off playing kit produced by the club’s official apparel partner Canterbury of New Zealand. It mixes the Vodafone Warriors’ core colour black with a dash of vivid pink featuring through the jersey and shorts (check out the jersey on www.warriors.co.nz).

As well as that, six of the team – Feleti Mateo, Shaun Johnson, Kevin Locke, James Maloney, Ben Matulino and Konrad Hurrell – will finish off their playing ensemble with specially-produced ASICS Pink Lethal Tigreor boots.

While the Women in League Round is being staged for the sixth season, this will be the first time the Vodafone Warriors have worn a pink strip.

In past seasons members and fans have been encouraged to give Mount Smart Stadium a blackout feel for home games, especially those at night, but this week they’re being asked to find something pink to wear as part of their game-day outfits.

There’ll also be Women in League activities for the 650 Vodafone Warriors corporate members in the East Stand Club Lounge on Sunday including an interview with Donna Grant, who recently became the first woman appointed to the club’s board.
